New Un-Branded Coffee Shops Being Trialled By Starbucks
Starbucks, the giants of the coffee shop world, have announced that they are trialing a new store that alongside the usual tea and coffee, will serve beer and wine. They will be trialing this new idea on one of their stores in Seattle. However, the types of drinks they are offering isn't the only change for this new store, Starbucks are also going to take down their classic company logo design from the new shop front. They are also removing their logo from all of the products.
If these new stores work, Starbucks will be able to get away without being required to design a logo for this new store, they are just going to name it after the street it's located on. This new store will be named 15th Avenue Coffee and Tea and alongside their new drinks, the store will also be opening late nights and hosting entertainment.
A few competitor brands believe that this move is Starbucks' attempt at pulling in business from customers that would normally go to small local coffee shops. However, will it really be that hard to see through the secret brand behind the new stores?
Although this new move from the giant came as a shock, they were required to do something to try and stay ahead of the market. When Starbucks first become extremely popular in the early 90's, they started to revolutionise coffee buying. Everyone started to become aware of the brand that was appearing in every town and on the media, the public started to pay more for their standard morning coffee. However, as a result of the credit crunch, people are seeing Starbucks as a luxury and opting for cheaper alternative, this has resulted in Starbucks loosing a new number of their shops.
In the past 12 months, Starbucks have cut 8000 jobs and closed 900 stores across the US. If Starbucks doesn't change it's approach, it could end up loosing yet more of their coffee stores. This is why they are trialing a new type of un-branded store, if it goes to plan, we could see a range of these appearing on our streets in the not too distant future. Whether these stores will end up carrying their own logo, widening Starbuck's logo portfolio, we'll just have to wait and see.
